Overview of Everest Base Camp Trek -16 Days

You arrive at the base of the highest peak in the world after this strenuous hike through Sherpa territory. As you walk along the footsteps of illustrious mountaineers, you’ll pass hilltop monasteries, himalayan market villages, and rugged peaks before arriving at the renowned starting location for all Everest expeditions.

In the heart of SoluKhumbu, this well-known trip takes you up and down the primary walking path. You’ll experience being quite high in the Himalaya and enjoy breathtaking mountain views. The majority of EBC hikes begin in Lukla, where most people choose to fly.

The Everest region may be visited all throughout the year, but the best times for clear skies and pleasant temperatures are in the spring (March to May) and the fall (late September to early November). Consider doing this walk between June and September, when there are fewer people around but still a chance of spectacular vistas, especially at higher elevations, for a more memorable experience. The residents have a lot of wildflowers out, there aren’t many people around, and the area is peaceful.

Four glacial valleys that run down from the Himalayan range that borders Tibet make up the Everest Region. As a result, fantastic trekking routes like the Three Passes Trek and Gokyo Lakes Trek can be coupled with Everest Base Camp.

Day1: Welcome to Kathmandu.

You’ll enjoy a stunning view of the valley, the Himalaya, and the terraced fields below as you take off for Kathmandu. After clearing customs, a representative will be there to help you check into your hotel and navigate the initial cultural shock of Kathmandu’s twisting, winding streets.

After you’ve settled in, go explore one of Kathmandu’s cultural attractions. The evening is a nice time to eat, and Thamel, a popular tourist destination, offers a wide selection of eateries serving both Western and regional Nepali cuisine.

The 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla will take you via some of Nepal’s most famous mountain ranges. Your experience officially starts when you land on the constrained mountaintop runway.

Start your half-day walk after your chaotic arrival. You will descend through the DudhKoshi Valley on a riverside trail, through farmland, stone settlements, and snow-capped mountains as you make your way to Phakding for your first overnight.

Day 4: Trek to Namche(3,440m)

The DudhKoshiriver is crisscrossed by the route from Phakding on a steel cable suspension bridge. Yaks and other local wildlife may wander along this path, so keep a watch out for them.

From there, a hiking trail enters Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO-designated wildlife preserve where snow leopards and red pandas can be found. You must register your trekking permits at a checkpoint in Monjo before starting the arduous hike to Namche Bazaar. You might be able to see Mount Everest in the distance if the weather is clear.

After a challenging ascent, you’ll arrive at your overnight stop with plenty of time to buy for any additional equipment you might need. The famous conference took place at Namche, the biggest trading settlement in the Khumbu region.

Day5 : Rest Day in Namche

You’ll use today to unwind and acclimate after yesterday’s substantial altitude climb.

Before visiting the Sherpa Culture Museum, which features exhibits of cultural objects from the Sherpa people, browse the market’s gift stores. At a neighboring memorial, you can pay your condolences to Tenzing Norgay, who was the first person to summit Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary.

Take a quick acclimatization stroll to help your body get used to the higher altitude. You can go to Khunde Hospital, a medical facility Sir Edmund Hillary founded in 1966, or climb further above Namche for an hour to the Everest View Hotel. Plan your hike to end just before sunset so you may see AmaDablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Everest among the huge peaks of the Khumbhu range. The National Park Center offers a breathtaking view as well as a free display on the history and culture of the Khumbhu region.

06
Day 6: Trek to Tengboche(3,440m)

The trail leaves Namche and travels into a valley high above the DudhKoshi River. You’ll be prepared to resume traveling after taking a day and a half to recover in Namche. The sights are a strong motivator as well. As you depart Namche, you’ll have a clear view of the Himalaya, which represents the highest points on Earth. As you continue on the trek, you’ll see inhabitants in Sherpa communities going about their daily lives. You might stop along the road at one of the many tea shops to enjoy a cup of Nepali tea.

Finally, crossing yet another suspension bridge, you will descend steeply over the river. The much-needed pit stop and the PhunkiTenga settlement are there for the taking. Over lunch, fill up on carbohydrates while taking in the surroundings. You’ll then have to hike up another high hill. Keep a look out for the region’s vibrant mountain bird species as the shady road winds past rhododendron trees and high-altitude panoramas. Finally, you’ll reach Tengboche, where you’ll find the largest and most renowned Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu.

Trekking Duration: 4-5 Hours

Day 7: Trek to Dingboche(4,410m)

You will now descend sharply through dense forest after ascending to chilly, desolate Tengboche. You’ll cross the Imja River, a tributary of the DudhKoshi. From there, proceed to Pangboche, a hamlet that is positioned right across from AmaDablam, one of the region’s iconic summits. You will be able to take in breathtaking and immersive views of the mountain because of the village’s special location. A gompa, or Tibetan monastery, and revered Buddhist mani walls are also visible.

The gompa in Pangboche is the oldest in the area, while Dingboche’s monastery holds the distinction of being the largest in the Khumbu. You should go inside and take a shower. The monastery, which was founded in 1667, is home to a few odd artifacts, including the hand and skull of a supposed yeti. You must walk for a further few hours before you reach Dingboche, where you will spend the night.

Day 8: Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

Your body is probably ready for a break after a demanding few days of nonstop climbing. Fortunately, you will have the entire day in Dingboche to unwind or, if you’re feeling adventurous, go on an acclimatization hike.

For a more traditional atmosphere than the lower, trekker-oriented area of town, which is primarily made up of guesthouses and tea lodges, head up to higher elevations along upper Dingboche. You can go to NangarDzong, a former Buddhist hermitage, if you’re up for a short day hike. Additionally, a mountain called Dolma Ri is located along the ridge line and is easily accessible on foot. There are also a number of colorful prayer flags strung together with a picturesque vista.

Day 9:  Trek to Lobuche(4,930m)

You’ll return to the main path after taking a break or taking a couple shorter day treks. Continue ascending the broad valley that lies immediately below the impressively looming Cholatse and Tawache peaks, which are covered in snow. You’ll see that there is less human habitation as the terrain becomes more chilly and desolate.

The Khumbhu Glacier, the highest glacier in the world, is reached after making another bend that leads to a difficult ascent. Nothing can prepare you for a face-to-face look, despite the fact that it is one of the most photographed views along the road. The glacier is strewn with undulating islands of avalanche debris, and melting snow is carving beautiful designs onto the ice.

Numerous stone cairns can be found along the path’s summit as you continue to climb. These were erected as monuments to Sherpas who lost their lives while in charge of Everest missions. Once at the small settlement known as Lobuche, the journey continues gently up the glacier’s slope.

Day10: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,125m)

Today is off to a buzz of adventurous vigor. You’ll get up early and leave Lobuche at the first sign of light, allowing you to see the sunrise as it touches the Himalayan peaks. As the morning sun illuminates the base, you’ll notice the entire valley gradually becoming illuminated with golden light.

From there, you’ll make your way across the Khumbu Glacier to GorakShep, a dry lake bed with a sinister name (it means “Graveyard of Crows”). Simple, unassuming lodges are strewn around the spectacularly arid and treeless alpine landscape in this rural area.

However, you haven’t yet stopped. Continue on, rising slowly but steadily down the Khumbhu Glacier in an effort to reach Everest Base Camp. After a tough day at a high altitude, the reward finally shows up. Stop to snap pictures and unwind at the well-known peak expedition threshold. You’ll spend the night in GorakShep after taking some time to take in your surroundings and roam among the camps (up to 75 expedition teams can be seen there in the spring.)
