Itinerary of Tilicho Lake Trek – 12 Days
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
Greetings from Kathmandu! When you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), a representative will welcome you and provide an outlineof the remainder of the trip while driving you to your accommodation in a private vehicle or a high-end tour bus.
The most populous city in Nepal is Kathmandu, which also serves as its capital. Kathmandu is a well-liked travel destination for visitors, trekkers, and adventure seekers as it is the historical and cultural center of Nepal. The city is an amalgam of the Valley’s influences from the West, Tibetan Buddhism, and Hinduism.
Your first stop should be at Boudha, a calm and orderly area of Kathmandu. Spend some time exploring Boudha Stupa in the evening. Visit Boudhanath, one of the largest Buddhist shrines in the world, one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimages, and a popular tourist attraction in Kathmandu. It stands guard over moral conduct and the welfare of people with four sets of eyes facing the four cardinal directions. Tibet had exclusive control over the region up until the last century, making Boudhanath a part of the history that both Nepal and Tibet can share. It is constructed on an octagonal base with an inset, and the stupa contains prayer wheels, lama (or Buddhist priest) residences, monasteries, and stores. More than 50 Tibetan gompas, or monasteries, can be found in the Boudhanath area, which is another notable feature.
Explore for a while, then head to your hotel for the evening to rest.
Day 2: Drive to Chame
Drive to Besisahar early this morning to begin the day’s excursion from there. It is also the town that links Pokhara and Kathmandu to a number of trekking locations, including the Tsum Valley Trek, the Manaslu Circuit Trek, and the Annapurna Circuit Trek.
Chame, a stunning Gurung settlement at the foot of a hill, is reached after another 4-5 hours of traveling. The local community is sparsely populated. But while there, be prepared for friendly greets and outstanding hospitality. When you get there, check into your lodging and then take the evening as you choose.
Day 3: Trek from Chame to Upper Pisang
Take a beautiful stroll from Chame to Pisang today. As you go through the forest, look up to see the towering peaks. Visit the gompa and mani stones with Tibetan inscriptions in Pisang after arriving. For breathtaking views of Annapurna II and Annapurna III, ascend to Upper Pisang by foot.
Enjoy the evening at your own pace, then retire for the night to your teahouse.
Day 4: Trek to Manang Village
Today, set out on a 6-hour hike to Manang, which nearly reaches 11,500 feet in elevation, passing by a number of distinctive and colorful Chortens. The region’s administrative center, Manang, has a settlement with about 500 flat-roofed homes as well as bakeries and lodgings for trekkers passing through. High peaks, including Annapurna III and Gangapurna, tower over it. Across the river, there is a stunning
icefall. Along with numerous neighborhood teahouses and some evocative, winding alleyways in the hamlet leading out into the Thorung La, there is an old Gompa on the outskirts of town that is worth exploring.
Check in to your tea house, take a shower, and have a nice drink when you arrive. If you’re interested, go to the Himalayan Rescue Association’s presentation on altitude at 3 o’clock. Attend a presentation by Manang-born photographer Tashi R. Ghale in the evening. There will be a slideshow and a movie of the locale.
Day 5: Explore Manang Village and Ganga Purna Lake
There is a lot to do near Manang right now. However, in order to become adjusted to the altitude, a brief hike of about 1,000 feet is advised. Among other things, there are the following:
- A long day-hike to Ice Lake
- A visit to the Hundred Rupee Lama at the cave gompa above Manang
- A two-hour hike to Milarepa‘s cave, which is across the river from Braga
- A tour of Manang’s many bakeries
Enjoy your guesthouse as well—it’s a nice, bright area to take in the afternoon peaks. You can enjoy the evening after a day of adventure.
Day 6: Trek to SiriKharka
On the west side of Manang, Tilicho Lake is the destination for today’s expedition. Down to the river, follow the route. Reach Khangsar after crossing the KhangsarKhola, then proceed to the village area, which is still quite traditional in Tibet. Trek to Shree Kharka and spend the night in a teahouse there.
Hike up to view some Himalayan blue sheep and the surrounding mountains later in the day. You’re on your own for the night.
Day 7: Trek to Tilicho Base Camp
Today, continue the ascent on a recently built trail up toward a high peak after passing a monastery. There is a crossroads somewhere. In order to reach a point where the valley is narrow, one road continues to ascend, while the other maintains its elevation and travels along the slopes. The latter is the new trail that takes an entirely different route; the former is the old path and is far more challenging because it continues on a steep screed.
Continue on the new trail until you reach a high crest. From there, you can descend to a side valley of the main valley by switchbacks carved out of the mountains. There is a creek at its base. At a height of 13,780 feet, on the other side of it, is a structure known as the Tilicho Base Camp. After the hike, spend the evening at your teahouse.
Day 8: Hike to Tilicho Lake and trek back to SiriKharka
To avoid the wind today, get up early and start your day. Tilicho Lake is another 3–4 hours away. The highest lake in the world, Tilicho Lake is cold and desolate in the late afternoon. Spend some time at Tilicho Lake when you first arrive to take pictures and films of the bizarre surroundings.
After that, head back to base camp for lunch by using the same route. Take a stroll down the riverfront and over the rocky landslide region to SiriKharka after lunch. Once you get at the teahouse, you can unwind for the remainder of the afternoon and into the evening by taking a hot shower and drinking a cool beer.
Day 9: Trek Back to Manang Village
While most hikers on the Annapurna Circuit go on to Yak Kharka, you should head toward the settlement of Manang. Pass the monastery as you stroll alongside the river. Before arriving in Manang village, take a break for lunch in Khangsar.
After that, relax for a while while taking another hot shower and a cold beverage. You might choose to see a movie from a theater at the top of the planet on a modest projector as well.
Day 10: Drive to Besisahar
Take a Jeep out of Manang today. While traveling, stop for lunch and enjoy dhal bhat, a typical Nepalese delicacy, as you pass through apple orchards and tiny settlements. Stop at Besisahar, where the day comes to a close, and spend the night there. In the evening, get clean and unwind at the motel.
Day 11: Drive Back to Kathmandu
In the early morning, make your return to Kathmandu by private Jeep transfer. The trip typically takes 5 hours. After checking in to the hotel in Kathmandu, you are free to spend your time relaxing and/or shopping.
Do some more exploration of the area, further discovering the monasteries and meeting the lamas. Trade emails with travel companions, organize your photos and watch the sunset from the hotel terrace with a coffee or a beer. Enjoy your last night in Nepal at your leisure.
Day 12: Depart from Kathmandu
It’s time to say farewell to Nepal. Soak up your last moments in Kathmandu with breakfast in a café, a city stroll, and/or souvenir shopping. A travel representative will meet you at your hotel and drive you to the airport for your return flight home. Keep in mind, it is ideal to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to departure. Safe Travels!
