Overview of Manaslu Short Trek

Manaslu Short Trek is an ideal trek that is far less crowded trek with wonderful trekking experience into the lap of the Mt.Manaslu.

Bhimthang is part of the Manaslu Trekking Route beyond the Larkya La Pass from the Gorkha side and just two days of hiking from Dharapani. Trekking in Bhimthang is called Manaslu Short Trek or Mini Manaslu Trek. It is designed for those trekkers who like to explore wonderful Himalayan scenery, including Mt. Manaslu(8163m), amazing glaciers, tranquil lakes, and unique culture in a short period of time.

The main destination of the Short Manaslu Trek is Bhimthang, it is truly a piece of paradise, located east of Manang in Tilje at an elevation of 3590 meters, at the lap of the Himalayas as bowled shaped surrounded by mountains and many hillocks.

For people who wish to escape from the crowd of trekkers and would like to hike in beautiful natural scenery in a short time; Bhimthang is a perfect choice. Bhimthang was one of the salt trading points between Nepal-Tibet routes. For Trekkers who come from the cross over the Larkya La (5160m), Bhimthang is well known among trekkers as the Manaslu Short Trek

Brief Itinerary

Day1: Drive from Kathmandu To Besisahar(825m)5-6 hours and drive to Dharapani (1963m)

Day2: Trek from Dharapani to Goa/Gho(2515m).

Day3: Trek from Gho to Bhimthang(3590m)

Day4: Explore the day at Bhimthang (3590m), visit Ponkar Lake, Nayamlo Lake and Glacier.

Day5: Trek from Bhimthang to Tilje(2300m)

Day6: Trek from Tilje to Dharapani(1930m)

Itinerary of Manaslu Short Trek

01
Day1: Drive from Kathmandu- Besisahar- Dharapani

Our trekking guide will come to hotel in the morning at 6:00 to pick you up with private transport. Till Besisahar it will take 5-6 hours.  During the journey you will go pass green hills, rivers, and villages. And again drive from Besisahar till Dharapani which will take 3-4 hours with a view of Manaslu, Annapurna II and other majestic mountains.  Overnight at teahouse.

Day2: Trek from Dharapani To Gho(2515m)

Dharapani is the main entry point of the Manaslu Circuit trip reverse way. Just a few people do Larkya La Pass from this side. So you will see just a few trekkers heading up as your companion. After crossing the bridge at Marsyangdi River, along the the Dudh Khola you will walk on a wider road until Tilje.

On the way, you can visit Pyakane Cave, Tamang Gompa, Thoncha village where Buddha’s statue is revered with religious scriptures and holy books in the monastery. It is a nice place to stop for a cup of tea. After this the trail goes through the river bank and oak and pine forest with beautiful Gurung villages and finally gets Goa/Gho(2515m). Overnight at teahouse.

Day3: Trek from Goa/Gho to Bhimthang(3590m)

On this second day of hike; it is a pleasant walk through the sub-tropical jungle and rural villages. People are seen doing agriculture and animal husbandry, often you see sheep, cows and yaks. Just when you reach Toemro you will see Mt.Manaslu, this is the first view of Manaslu on your trip.

The trail goes through the jungle with the sound of birds and raging river of Karche(2700m) to reach Yak Kharka for lunch.  After lunch the trail gets harder and finally you will reach Bhimthang after 4-5 hours of walk. Overnight at teahouse.

Day4: Explore day at Bhimtang(3590m)

As Bhimthang is the key destination of this trip, after having breakfast, you will hike around Bhimthang with personal gear and drinking water. Bhimthang is a beautiful place full of natural beauty. As it is surrounded by white mountains so people even call it “Silver Bowl”. Poker Lake, Nayamlo Tal, Ponkar Glacier, Kechayu, and Suti glacier are the main attractions of Bhimthang.

While walking above the Ponkar Lake you will ascend to to viewpoint from where you can see Manaslu North (7157m), Lamjung Himal(6983m) , Larkya Peak(6983m), Himlung Himal( 7126m) , Cheo Himal(6812m)and many more. All in all a thrilling day to observe majestic mountain, silence and glacial lakes we head back to Bhimthang for overnight.

Day5: Trek from Bhimthang to Tilje(2300m)

The trail descends along the fig tree and rhododendron forest, through the rocky riverbed and sliding hillsides to several green villages. Eventually, after a long but scenic day, we reach large village of Tilje, inhabitants of a mix of Tamang is (of Tibetan descent ) and Chettris( Hindu), so have a unique architecture and culture and eat mixed foods- DalBhat, buckwheat dhido, Tsampa, and Tinetan salt-tea. Total walking time is 7-8 hours covering a distance of 20 km. We will stay overnight at teahouse.

Day 06: Trek to Dharapani-Drive to Beaisahar- Drive to Kathmandu

It’s an easy trekking day following the Dudh Khola through bamboo forests about 1.5 to 2 hours walk down to reach Dharapani. Form here we will be at Annapurna Circuit Trekking main trail, the atmosphere here of Tibetan village with prayer flags fluttering at the gomba in Thongje will leave mesmerized.

From Dharapani since the road is under construction, will be a bumpy ride to Besisahar.  And fro Besisahar we will continue our journey back to Kathmqndu wherea celebration is definitely in order tonight!
