Khopra Danda Trek Route Map
Itinerary of Khopra Danda Trek -13 Days
Day 1: Welcome to Kathmandu!
You’ll get vistas of the valley, the Himalaya, and the terraced fields below as you soar into Kathmandu. After clearing customs, a representative will be there to welcome you outside the airport and help you navigate the initially disorienting tiny, winding streets of Kathmandu to your accommodation.
After you’ve settled in, go exploring in the city. The Kathmandu Durbar Square is an excellent site to start your trip because it is surrounded by tiny stores, historic temples, and neighborhood eateries. Swayambhunath, the white stupa standing above the valley, is the ideal location to watch the sun set over the valley if you want to get some exercise.
With a variety of restaurants offering both Western and regional Nepali cuisine, Thamel, the city’s tourist centre, is a fantastic place to eat dinner in the evening.
Day 2: Explore Kathmandu
When the city is gently waking up in the morning hours and isn’t yet too chaotic, Kathmandu offers a unique aura. It’s a perfect time to stroll and explore the neighborhood, or to enjoy a chai while gazing out over one of the durbar squares or neighborhood courtyards.
Given the plethora of well-known landmarks in and around the Kathmandu Valley, there are a variety of ways you can spend the rest of the day after breakfast. You can use this day on your own or hire a local English-speaking guide (along with a private jeep to carry you about) who is familiar with the city and can explain the significance and history of the sights.
Visit one of the city’s top restaurants for dinner in the evening.
Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Trek to Ghandruk (1,940 m)
You will be picked up from your accommodation and driven to the airport for your quick flight to Pokhara, a lakeside city west of Kathmandu, after an early breakfast. If you want to see the Himalayas while flying, your specialist can assist you in your efforts to find a seat on the appropriate side of the aircraft. You will be met at the airport by a private car and driven to Kimche, where the trip to Ghandruk starts!
Explore the traditional stone-slab homes in Ghandruk, often known as the “Switzerland of Nepal,” and visit the modest Gurung Museum for information on local history and textiles, or simply unwind by sitting down. The Annapurna range, Glacier Dome, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) may all be seen covered in snow from many locations within the settlement.
Trekking time: 4-5 hours (5.6 miles / 9 km)
Day 4: Trek from Ghandruk to Tadapani (2,610 m)
Enjoy a delicious breakfast while waking up to stunning views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and the Hiunchuli peaks in Ghandruk.
The trail will then ascend via Deurali and enter some lush rhododendron trees from here. Nepal’s national flower is the rhododendron blossom, and in the spring, when the trees are in full bloom, the forests are transformed into vivid floral gardens, which seem especially stunning when contrasted with the distant, snow-capped mountains.
You will eventually arrive in Tadapani after hiking over a brief pass and getting to take in more breathtaking scenery. The settlement is home to a large population of amiable Tibetans, who will probably be selling trekkers items while they are out and about.
Time required for a 6-mile (9.7-km) hike: 3 to 4 hours
Day 5: Trek from Tadapani to Dobato (3,420 m), Sunset from Muldai Peak
You will depart the main trail after breakfast in Tadapani and start walking through a lovely rhododendron forest in a more secluded corner of the Annapurna range. This off-the-beaten-track trail passes through lovely Nepali villages, as well as a variety of plants, animals, and old trees. It has a mystical ambiance that could only exist in a Tolkien novel.
You will begin a more difficult climb that lasts all the way up to the lodges at Dobato after a brief ascent and drop into a dell. You will eventually come out on the northern side of the ridgeline after about 30 minutes. Listen to the roar of numerous waterfalls as the river rushes down into the spectacular steep-sided valley far, far below, while taking in the breathtaking vista of the Annapurna South mountain towering above you. More oak and coniferous trees will now replace deciduous ones in the woodland. The teahouse at MesharDanda, positioned on the ridgeline with genuinely amazing views, is a difficult half-hour climb from here.
You’ll have to go through this kind of forest track for another hour or so after having a cup of tea and taking a brief break before you arrive at the open hillside at Isharu, where shepherds graze their sheep. Before getting back on the road, refuel with a healthy lunch. Beginning with a gradual climb, the track bends around the hillside before ascending to a brief but stunning pass and passing through an intriguing Gurung temple.
From here, you will quickly descend into a stunning open valley before returning to the ridgeline and entering the trees once more. Amazing purple-barked rhododendron trees can be seen along the walk; these are much smaller than the ones you saw earlier but are nonetheless remarkable for their color (and, if the weather is clear, the mountain backdrop!). You will curve down from the ridge to a stream bed and a narrow pass, from which you will continue to the lodges at Dobato.
If you still have some energy left, climb to Muldai Peak for views of the setting sun. The trek’s high point can be found at the view tower, which can be reached from the teahouse in around 45 minutes.
Trekking Time: 5 to 6 hours for a 4-mile (6.5-km)
Day 6: Trek from Dobato to Upper Chistibung (2,975 m)
After breakfast in Dobato, you’ll set off to climb Muldai Peak in order to catch the dawn and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic vista. To get to the pastures of Lower Chistibung, you must descend from here via open terrain and a lovely forest.
Before reaching Upper Chistibung, a temporary herder’s village, continue to ascend steadily through another woodland on the trail. On the grassy ridge above the trail, you might even be able to see the vibrant Lophophorus (Danphe), the national bird of Nepal, as well as Himalayan Thar.
Trekking time: 4-5 hours (2.4 miles / 4 km)
Day 7: Trek from Upper Chistibung to Khopra Danda (3,660 m)
You’ll start your slow ascent above treeline through lovely alpine meadows and pastures after breakfast in Upper Chistibung in order to get to Khopra. Look for the Annapurna South peak in the distance as you enter the ridge.
Once at Khopra, take a short stroll to a vantage point with a glimpse of the Kali Gandaki River far below in the deep valley. You can take in the breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains, including as Mount Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Annapurna South, while staying in Khopra for the night.
Trekking time: 2-3 hours (2 miles / 3.2 km)
Accommodation: Teahouse
