Essential Information - Glimpse of Bhutan Tour

Best Time for the Bhutan Tour

Bhutan is a year round destination, but spring from March to May and autumn from September to November are widely considered the best seasons for a Bhutan Tour. The weather at this period is usually good with comfortable temperatures, clear skies and good sightseeing conditions. The spring will also introduce color to the valleys and hills with bright, colorful flowers and the fall will bring mountain scenery and various colorful cultural celebrations around the nation.

Winter is colder, between December and February, particularly in the mornings and evenings, but it is a good period to visit in case you want to enjoy quieter sites. Summer, between June and August, has occasional rainfall though the countryside is lush and green. To ensure that the experience is enjoyable in all seasons, our Bhutan Tour Itinerary has been created to enable the traveler to explore the culture, monasteries and beautiful scenery of Bhutan all the year round.

Tour Difficulty

The Bhutan Tour is a simple cultural vacation, which can be enjoyed by travelers of all ages and physical abilities. The tour is fun to couples, families, solo travelers, and elderly visitors as most of the activities are comfortable sightseeing, short walks around monasteries, dzongs, museums, and local markets. No previous trekking or hiking experience is required to complete this itinerary.

The hike to the Tiger Nest Monastery is the most dynamic of the tour, and lasts approximately 4-5 hours round trip. The trail consists of a steady uphill slope and stone steps and forest trails, though it is achievable at a slow pace with frequent rests on the way. Horses are available for hire on the first section of the trail up to the cafeteria for those who would like extra assistance.

The final section to the monastery must be completed on foot. All in all, our Bhutan Tour Package will provide a comfortable experience of travel, which will include cultural sightseeing, as well as light outdoor activities, and thus will be appropriate to the majority of visitors.

Accommodation and Meals

During the Bhutan Tour, you will stay in carefully selected hotels that combine modern comfort with traditional Bhutanese hospitality. Most hotels have restaurants, gardens, or comfortable common areas where you can relax after a day of sightseeing.

Breakfast is served daily at your hotel, while lunch and dinner are enjoyed at quality local restaurants or hotel dining rooms. Vegetarian meals are widely available throughout the tour, and special dietary requirements can usually be arranged with advance notice. There are also Indian, Chinese and continental meals commonly available offering a range of options during your Bhutan Tour Package.

Visa and Entry Requirements

The majority of foreigners need to have a visa to enter Bhutan. The visa is obtained via a licensed Bhutanese tour operator and will be processed after your tour booking is confirmed. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of travel, and travelers should submit the required documents well in advance to avoid delays. Indian nationals do not require a Bhutan visa but must obtain an Entry Permit upon arrival with valid travel documents.

In case of Nepal Wanderlust Treks, we will collaborate with our reliable partners in Bhutan to secure your visa and do all necessary travel arrangements before you set off. Our team will assist you in the application procedure and give you all the information needed and thus book your holiday easily. This will enable you to enjoy your trip without worrying about the paper work.

Transportation

The Bhutan Tour is conducted using comfortable private vehicles to transport passengers between airports, sightseeing and between Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. All vehicles are driven by experienced local drivers who are familiar with Bhutan’s mountain roads, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey throughout your holiday.

Road travel in Bhutan is enjoyable, with beautiful views of valleys, forests, rivers, and traditional villages throughout the journey. There are also a number of scenic stops that can be made along the way to take photographs or make brief stops where necessary. The travel program has been carefully designed to give you plenty of time at each destination so you don’t feel rushed, making the journey itself an important part of the overall experience.

Travel and Health Insurance

The Bhutan Tour can be done by people of any age and the experience does not involve any prior knowledge in trekking. The only moderate activity is the hike to Tiger Nest Monastery and it is a gradual uphill walk that can be undertaken at a comfortable pace with frequent rests. An average fitness is usually adequate and there should not be any difficulty in having fun with the itinerary.

However, considering that Bhutan is considered a safe destination for travelers, travel insurance is highly recommended. Medical treatment, trip cancellation, personal belongings and emergency evacuation should also be included in your policy in case any are required. The right insurance will provide you with some additional peace of mind and also make sure that there is somebody you can call in case of any unexpected travel and medical issues during your tour.
